Val Tever (1994)

What can you say about the club’s most devoted couple, Val and Ken. Taking over the running of the club’s magazine in the late 1970’s. For 9 seasons from 1979/80 to 1987/88 Val and Ken wood produce the Club Newsletter on an old Gestetner. They’d type up the ‘stencils’ print them off and compile the lot. Year after year they did this until the advent of computers and photocopiers. We are spoilt these days by comparison. Even though Bob Price took over the newsletter role in 1988/89 they continued to be collected from Ken and Val’s place in Mountain Street until the end of the 2010/11 season.

Val was heavily involved in running our Ladies Auxiliary Committee organising function and fund raising.

Val and Ken’s son, Craig, was a capable all-rounder, who played junior and senior cricket for the club for 13 seasons from – 1979/80 to 1991/92. He was awarded Senior Club Champion award in 1988/89.

In 1994 Val was a recipient of the Hughes Community Award and then in the same year was awarded Life Membership of the Club along with Ken. In 1997 Val’s name was perpetuated on the Club Member of the Year Award “The Val Tever trophy”.
