Engadine Dragons has had a strong relationship with the Bradman Foundation that dates back to the 2001/2002 season when we sent our first two Under 12 players to the Bradman Camp as part of the EDCC Bradman Foundation Scholarship.
Through the Foundation, Sir Donald encouraged an active program of youth cricket in Australia. The Bradman Camps held annually at Bradman Oval, Bowral, continue to uphold the spirit of “the Don” and ensures his memory will live on in the game.
The scholarship has assisted in improving the skill levels of our junior cricketers and one of the reasons why EDCC is the strong club it is today.
Many thanks go to Carol and Harry Peters and their business Marine Product Marketing who generiously sponsored this scholarship from 2004/05 to 2010/11.
We extended our relationship with the Bradman Foundation in the 2005/2006 season when we held our inaugural Bradman Challenge Match at the historic Bradman Oval in Bowral on the 8th April 2006.
Two teams of our Under 16 players, face off against each other in a fun one day cricket match.
The spirit that these games have been played in has been first class. The players have all commented that this has been one of their most memorable cricket experiences to date.
This initiative is aimed at rewarding and recognising our Under 16 players as they finish up their junior cricket careers. We are looking to encourage these young men to continue with their cricket careers, whether it is playing for the Sutherland Grade Club or Senior Men’s Cricket with the Dragons.
Because of funding it was decided during the 2014/15 season that both the Bradman Scholarship and Bradman Match would no longer be conducted.

Bradman Match 2007/08
Bowral 20th April 2008
Unfortunately our 3rd Annual Bradman Challenge Match at Bradman Oval was cancelled due to wet weather.
This was a disappointing outcome but when you play on turf and receive as much rain as Bowral did over the week before the game, it was always going to be difficult to get on and play.
Most of second year 16 players had the great opportunity to play on this ground last year, whilst for the other younger boys, there is always next year.
Thanks once again to the Bradman Foundation in supporting our club and we look forward to returning next year as it is a unique opportunity to play on a ground with the status and quality of Bradman Oval.
We continue to believe it is a marvelous way for our Under 16 boys to finish off their junior careers with the Dragons.

Bradman Match 2006/07
Bowral 21st April 2007
The 2nd Annual Bradman Challenge Match was played at Bradman Oval, Bowral, on 21st April and was a tremendous success. Since its inception just last year the match has quickly become a major event on the Dragon’s calendar, as evidenced by the outstanding support it received this year. The match is played by two teams of Dragon’s juniors, primarily Under 16s, with priority given to those players in their second year. As such, it represents a unique opportunity for many of these players to play on a ground with the status and quality of Bradman Oval and is a marvellous way for them to finish their junior cricket careers with the Dragons. The teams are carefully selected by the coaches and captains to ensure an even mix of ability and the match is played using an averages format, which ensures all players have equal involvement with both bat and ball.
This year’s match was played in perfect weather conditions and was attended by a large crowd of family and club members, with many staying overnight and having a most enjoyable and sociable time. “Marciante’s Maulers”, captained by Ben Marciante and coached by Harry Robbins, were victorious over “Ward’s Warriors”, captained by Daniel Ward and coached by Dennis Pendergast. The match was keenly contested and played in great club spirit, with plenty of runs scored, wickets taken, no shortage of banter and, most importantly, a lot of laughter and fun had by all. Congratulations to all players for the way they played the game and particularly to Jason Gilmore and Dean McMillan who were players of the match. Many thanks to; Ben, Harry, Daniel and Dennis for their efforts in organising and running the teams, Steve Chapman and Paul Bremner for umpiring, Ian Latham for his organisation, Ken Newman our ‘official photographer’ and all the parents and supporters who assisted on the day with scoring, afternoon tea and supporting the players and the club. It is events such as this which demonstrate the wonderful club we have and will no doubt be something our junior players can look forward to for many years to come.

Bradman Match 2005/06
Bowral 8th April 2006
The inaugural Bradman Challenge Match was held on Saturday April 8, 2006 on the famous Bradman Oval in Bowral. What is hoped to become an annual fixture on the Club’s Calender proved to be a resounding success with all involved. Twenty-four players, a multitude of relatives and friends, were treated to a postcard setting, a perfect autumn day, 500 plus runs and a swag of wickets.
The format of the match saw the first year U/16’s challenge the second year U/16’s in an entertaining match that went down to the wire. In the end the old boys captained by Ryan Croom and coached by Harry Robbins narrowly defeated the young boys captained by Daniel Ward and coached by Dennis Pendergast. Congratulations to all the players on way they presented and conducted themselves as representatives of our Club, you did us proud.
The Club would like to thank the Committee members and official umpires Robbie Knight and Stephen Chapman for their contribution on the day. Also thanks to Jenny Ward, Barbara Pendergast, Patricia Croom, Jodi Latham and Kim Herne for organising and setting up the afternoon tea. Last, but not least, we would like to thank the Bradman Foundation, especially Allison Hyland Administration Manager, for assisting us in our request to play on the much sought after Bradman Oval.
